Whether you are just purchasing your first hot tub, or have had one for years and have come up with a new question, here are a few hot tub FAQ's to get you off on the right track to solving any of your hot tub problems or concerns!
1. Where is the best place for a hot tub?
While much of the positioning of your hot tub comes down to personal choice, keep in mind that even the smallest hot tubs, when filled can weigh upwards of 1,000 pounds without anyone in them. So, it is always best to have a strong foundation for your hot tub such as a concrete slab. Secondly, take a look around and be sure that the area you are planning on putting your hot tub is in a place that is conducive to what you have in mind when relaxing in your hot tub. Note the view from the site, also how well neighbors can see you, and even if there is a lot of noise in the area. Finally, measure the area and be certain the hot tub can fit where you plan.
2. Do I need to have professionals install my hot tub?
Because of the bulk and weight of the hot tub, it is best to leave the job to the professionals. The majority of retailers will provide delivery of your hot tub and can help you install it. You will also probably want an electrician as well, because many hot tubs will require a separate breaker.
3. How much work is it to clean and maintain my hot tub?
Maintaining the proper pH and other chemical levels in the hot tub is essential to keeping the water sanitary and safe to use. This will include doing a daily pH and sanitizer level test, adding chlorine to the water, and cleaning the hot tub filters periodically throughout the year. Yet, if kept under good care, a hot tub does not require too much additional work.
4. What is the hot tub's ideal pH level and how do I maintain it?
Ensuring your hot tub's water is kept between the ideal pH of 7.2 and 7.8 is always best and is recommended for it to be tested each day. To do this, you will buy a standard pH level testing kit and take one of the test strips and dip it into your hot tub's water. The strip will turn color, and then you are to compare that hue to the chart on the box to determine what the pH level is of your hot tub's water.
5. What if the pH level is off, how do I fix it?
If the pH level of the water is not in the ideal range, then you will simply need to add the corresponding chemicals. You will have purchased a few different chemicals with your hot tub, with two being marked as to be added if the pH is too low, and another that is to be added if the pH is too high. Add them as such, and to the amounts listed on the bottle and follow the directions. You will then want to let your hot tub run for a minimum of 15 minutes to let the water readjust.
